Flow-y Neutrals // Getting Inspired

I don't know about you, but the winter-that-never-ends has put me in a serious style rut. I reach for the same sweaters, jeans and shoes day after day in an effort to stay warm and not be completely miserable, but the slowly climbing temps have me determined to change things up (Unless you run into me this week, in which case it will be pretty obvious I've been getting dressed from the pile of clothes always at the end of my bed. Is it Friday yet? Almost?). A lazy morning browsing Pinterest led me to this pin and I immediately realized I could replicate the look in my own way, thanks to this flow-y, pleated white skirt I usually save for hot summer days. I even played around in another pleated skirt while shopping at Bloomingdale's recently, mostly while avoiding orange-dress shopping for my sister's impending nuptials.

Paired with one of those go-to sweaters and a few of my favorite accessories—including my new favorite shoes!—and I was good to go. Now, if only that wind would die down for spring, too...

Phoenix Florals

A few years ago, while traveling from NYC, I spoke out loud about how lucky I was to have encountered very few flight issues in my life so far, but it would seem I spoke much, much too soon. Most of the past year has been marred with delays and cancellations and re-bookings, and Friday was no exception. You may recall my last post was written while at the airport, shortly before I'd hoped to hop on a flight. Since I have apparently cursed myself—and, if you know of any ways to un-do a travel curse, I'll be forever in your debt if you share—it was several more hours, flight changes, cancellations and an entirely different NYC area airport later before I was finally Phoenix-bound.

Luckily, my wonderful friend was more than willing to pick me up when I finally arrived after 1a, and when you step off a plane that late at night to 65 degree weather after suffering through a never-ending winter, you'd be a fool not to be in a fantastic mood. Especially when the following day is National Margarita Day and you get to wear shorts to go day-drink a bit at a sand bar in 80 degree weather.

Cashmere and Pumpkins

A few weekends ago, Jessica and I decided we needed to get out of the city with a little day trip out to the Hamptons, since they have a plethora of one of fall's best things-pumpkins! We hopped an early Jitney and were out there by afternoon-what we did NOT count on were all the families (hoards of small children included) who had the exact same thing planned. Luckily for us, we were able to get our pumpkin/apple cider donut fix and then cross the street to Duckwalk Vineyards for a little wine tasting-sans hoards of children-before heading back to the city.

Keeping with my weekend casual theme, I dressed pretty simply for the day. I've been living in this super-soft cashmere sweater from Otte since picking it up a few weeks ago.

Fall is Coming

Converting your wardrobe from summer to fall (used to be known as: getting ready for back to school) is all about pulling in a few key pieces without covering up too much at once. The weather in NYC has gotten considerably cooler lately, although it looks like summer is going to give its last gasping breath later this week. Since I spend most of my days in an air-conditioned building looking longingly out the window, I tend to dress more for the weather in the evenings when I'll be spending time outside. That means bringing back denim with slouchy tees gauzy tops, or pulling a blazer over summer dresses. Sleek gold accents make any look polished, like a classic gold chain necklace or metal hardware on your shoes & bags.
